1、 Yuxintine Project (TCM first-grade innovative drug)
(1). Innovative extraction process (National invention patent): After years of research, SIRC/TCM has successfully invented an innovative productive process appropriate for mass production. The process has such advantage as mild reaction conditions, low cost, resultants easily separated and purified and highly purified Yuxintine with high recovery rate. This technique has obtained the invention patent certificate granted by State Patent Bureau. Meanwhile, other plants (stable and abundant raw material, low price) categorized into the same group are innovatively utilized in the process to extract Yuxintine for the purpose of greatly reducing the production cost.
(2).Significant medical effect: The pre-clinical studies of Yuxintine capsule have been accomplished. The research findings indicate thatYuxintine has the same anti-depression effect with that of Prozac, the mainly-used chemical drug in clinical practice. Yuxintine has the prevailing curative effect over any other Chinese drugs. It is also the initially discovered originative novel drug at home and abroad. No significant difference exists between Yuxintine capsule and Prozac in the curative effect in the following activity model tests: against ptosis induced by reserpine, against akinesia induced by reserpine, tail suspension tests in mice, forced swimming tests in mice, and chronic unpredictable stress tests in rats. This function has been granted the invention patent by the State Intellectual Property Office.
(3).Rational preparation, stable quality: the systematic pharmaceutical study shows that the preparation of Yuxintine and its material is scientific, rational and feasible with stable and controllable quality.
(4).High security: No obvious adverse effects emerge in safe toxicology study.
The above research indicates that Yuxintine is a brilliant novel drug with Chinese and Western-style medicine features, which is of general characteristics of TCM: high security, less toxical adverse effect, low cost, as well as of the advantages of chemical drugs: clear ingredients, significant pharmacodynamic action and stable quality control. This drug, under assessment of Center for Drug Evaluation of State Food and Drug Administration, is expecting any cooperation in the project.

2、 TCM New Drug Orientation Research System

This new drug R&D system of Chinese herbs, with the unique Chinese characteristics, is created by SIRC/TCM after years of remitting efforts, taking advantage of China’s 3000-year accumulated valuable TCM cultural heritage.
The system can be applied in the development of novel drugs, cosmetics and healthcare foodto save more time and money. Our cooperation with world-known pharmaceutical, healthcare food and cosmetics companies has made great achievements.
In terms of requirements of specific clients, for example, targeting the drug market for specific diseases, we have collected related TCM data for the disease and improved the computation in the system according to corresponding key words. In this way, a complete new drug development report as well as a research and development report on the specific healthcare food and cosmetics can be made.
The system can individually produce TCM new drug with patents and exact curative effects (based on the SIRC/TCM’s TCM informatics with two patents and one computer software copyright, which is reputed at home and abroad for its novel design, unique functions and powerful data, and supported by the talented scientific research team of SIRC/TCM,five kinds of new drugs have been successfully developed for certain Hong Kong institution, meeting their market demand).

This database contains following functions:
Statistically analyzing the application frequency of all TCM recipes for certain disease
Analyzing the relationship between TCM active components and diseases
Statistically analyzing the frequency of TCM functions of all TCM recipes for certain disease

3、Geng-shu An Granules (Cooperation Project Between SIRC/TCM and Hong Kong )

Geng-shu An Granules is developed by SIRC/TCM, entrusted by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Institute of Chinese Medicine Limited. With the 6th kind of new drugs of Chinese medicines as the registration classification, it is indicated in the treatment ofthe following diseases resulted from invigorate kidney and nourish liver: heat disease, dizziness and tinnitus, soreness and weakness of waist and knees, hypodynamia, discomposure, insomnia and dreamful sleep, morbid forgetfulness, or emotional upset.
Geng-shu An Granules has the similar function of hormones and the anti-climacteric symptom. The pre-clinic acute toxical and long-term toxical test findings indicate that the product is safe, low-cost with no adverse effects.
The recipe, technique and usage of the project have been submitted for Chinese Patent and American Patent.
The unique characteristics of Geng-shu An Granules are that it is a natural product without chemical agential. The selected Chinese herbs can eradicate toxical plants and put emphasis on curative effects. Under the guidance of the theory of “kidney controlling reproduction”, “kidney being the congenital base of life” and “tonifying kidney and benefiting essence of life”, it can modulate the female hormones in the climacteric period by the adjustment of the axis of “pituitary-suprarenal gland-genitical gland” and bring the functions of the plant oestrogen in it into full play for the purpose of substitute ERT&HRT to treat the climacteric syndrome. The successful development of the drug can benefit women in the climacteric period with both social and economic profits.
Currently, the product is approved of clinical trial by State Food and Drug Administration.

4、 Novel Anti-flu Chinese Medicine
Development Background:in the development of the anti-bird flu, we have data processing of 170,000 TCM prescriptions in the TCM database and discovered the new formulae of TCM for prevention and cure of influenza.
Technical advantages & future perspectives: Due to the large influenza infection, we have discovered new TCM compound recipes with effective curative effect in the development of Chinese medicine treating bird flu. We preliminarily orientate the same target market with the Vitamin C Effervescent Tablets in the prevention and cure aspect. The product to substitute isatis root has been developed to treat influenza. With significant curative effect in the initial stage of influenza, it has promising market future. Under the guidance of the TCM theory, SIRC/TCM has made full use of the available TCM anti-influenza clinical and experimental material with the combination of the TCM informatics. Taking advantage of the advanced new drug screening technology with the combination of patent protection, SIRC/TCM has developed a novel anti-influenza drug, which is safe, immediately effective, easily manufactured with promising market future.

5、 Bang Yi Project (the 5th kind of new drugs of Chinese medicines)
(1). Natural:Bang Yi (ginseng saponins) is extracted from Sanchi, a natural herb. Due to the non-chemical preparation of Bang Yi without any other organic solvent except medical alcohol, Bang Yi is an absolute pure natural green product.
(2).Intelligence-developing: The tests indicate that Bang Yi can improve memory better than total ginsengnosides and the generally recognized intelligence-building monomers. Pharmacological studies on animal models have further demonstrated that Bang Yi is significantly effective for treatment of Alzheimer’s disease and improving memory.
(3).Novel Technique: Taking advantage of novel techniques to extract the optimal component that can promote intelligence in Sanchi. Every preparation process, with the orientation of curative effects and complete scientific analysis, selectively remove components that contradict with curative effects. Therefore, Bang Yi can achieve significant intelligence-promotion effect on account of the extracted intelligence-improving constitutes and the special composition.
(4). Good Quality: Bang Yi has high purity. High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) studies indicate that Ginsenoside PPD in Bang Yi, counted by Ginsenoside Rb1 & Rd, has accounted for over 50%. Fingerprints demonstrate that Bang Yi of different lots keeps concordant.

6、 Anti-allergic TCM Project
Technical advantages & future perspectives: The history of the TCM clinical application for anti-allergy can be traced back to 1700 years ago in “Treatise on Febrile Diseases Caused by Cold (Shanghan lun)” written by Zhongjing Zhang. Decoction of Radix Puerariae and Decoction of Less Qinglong are two most popular formulae for treating Asthma and other allergic diseases. Under the direction of TCM theory and integrating the information about lab researches and clinical trials, we have developed a novel anti-allergic drug by using modern drug screening techniques and our TCM database. This new herbal medicine is safe, effective, controllable and not expensive (TCM anti-allergy, low reverse effect and safe).。

7、 OSW-1 with strong anti-tumor activity
Technical advantages & future perspectives: OSW-1 is a saponin in Omithogalum saundersiae of Liliaceae with extremely strong anti-tumor activity. It was first separated by Japanese scientists. Its anti-tumor activity is 10~1,000 times than that of clinical application drugs.The pharmacodynamics study of the sample by Shanghai Institute of Pharmaceutical Industry has shown that 0.015mg/kg OSW-1 can inhibit tumor pulmonary metastasis by 63.18%, whose pharmaceutical effect is over 1,000 times than that of cyclophosphamide CTX (30mg/kg), one of representative anti-tumor drugs. In 1999, Professor Yongzheng Hui of Shanghai Innovative Institute Research Center of Traditional Chinese Medicine and his students first successfully synthesized OSW-1 in their lab, which wasawarded as one of the “Ten Most Important National Science and Technology News” by CAS and CAT academicians in 2000.Currently, due to the researches’ unremitting efforts,the important scientific and technological project of the National 863 Plan of “the Tenth Five-Year Plan”has successfully broken through the synthesis bottleneck, the synthetic route has been simplified and enough products have been prepared for all scientific experiments. The project result, as one new anti-tumor drug, is of promising future.

8、 Method for creation and visualization of core structures of chemical compounds from TCM species (submit for national invention patent)
Technical advantages and future perspectives: A novel method for creation and visualization of core structures of chemical compounds from TCM species. This method provides a computerized tool to visualize the data of key chemical structure of TCM components.

9、 Method for creation and application of colorful two-dimensional identification codes (submit for national invention patent)

Technical advantages and future perspectives: The novel technique for colorful two-dimensional identification code of the complex mixture system can be used for quality labeling and anti-faking of multi-component industrial and agricultural products such as rare TCM species, flavors and cosmetics. As it is easy and practical, it can be applied in electronized analysis.
