The Laboratory of TCM Genomics has established a TCM functional genomics platform for TCM screening and research. Integrating common TCM curative effect screening with research methods of genomics, proteomics and metabolomics, the platform can be used for drug screening, drug functional mechanism study and TCM drug target detection. The results of these studies will enrich the TCM database and direct the modern TCM research and development.
The laboratory of TCM Genomics is well equipped with advanced molecular biological research instruments such as infrared imaging system, gel imaging system, hybridization incubator, real-time PCR and various kinds of electrophoresis facilities. In collaboration with high-level domestic and overseas research institutes, the laboratory is capable of research in cDNA microarray, proteomics, metabolomics. Molecular biological experiments such as RT-PCR, real-time PCR, Southern, Northern, Western and histological experiments including in situ hybridization and immune histochemistry (IHC) can be conducted as well. A group of experienced researchers are working diligently and Academician Gu Jianren from Cancer Institute of Shanghai Jiao Tong University is our standing scientific consultant.
The laboratory is in charge of the research of key subject—system biology--and takes the lead in the research of TCM and metabolism supported by national science and technology support plan. Meanwhile, it is engaged in one project supported by MOST and two projects funded by Shanghai Municipal Committee of Science and Technology. By means of the research method in transcriptomics and metabolomics, it has established a system biology platform for TCM research when screening the curative effects of Chinese medicine.
